UPDATE: Teen charged after Oshawa stabbing that left 18 year-old with life-threatening injuries

A teenager has been arrested after a stabbing in Oshawa late Thursday afternoon that left an 18 year-old with life-threatening injuries.

Durham Police responded to a footpath near Ritson Rd. N. and Adelaide Ave. E. in Oshawa at 5:15 p.m. Thursday for reports of an armed person. Officers arrived alongside paramedics to find the victim with life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a Toronto trauma centre.

Police say the teen had approached a group of youths while brandishing a knife. The youths ran, and one of their brothers intervened and was stabbed in the chest by the suspect when he confronted him.

The suspect then fled and was taken into custody following a foot pursuit.

A 15 year-old from Oshawa is facing eight charges, including aggravated assault; two counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace.
