UPDATE: New Charges Laid Against Mississauga Man Shot by Police

Further charges were laid against a Mississauga man following an incident in Niagara.

Around 12:20 p.m. on Friday, December 21, Niagara Regional Police responded to a disturbance report at a residence on Anastasia Boulevard in West Lincoln.

There police had an interaction with a male, identified as 46-year-old Alexander Jason Bates from Mississauga.

Bates was shot by police and arrested.

Upon investigation, police located two people inside the residence who were critically injured.

Bates was charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Following a court appearance on Friday, December 28, Bates was additionally charged with uttering death threats and using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.

The victims were taken to hospital and have since been released. Their identities will not be disclosed by police.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, while the Special Investigations Unit continues to look into the police-involved shooting.
