Update: Man charged with killing cousin at Hamilton family gathering

Laureano Bistoyong, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed his 16-year-old cousin at a family gathering on Hamilton’s east Mountain.

Hamilton police said the 16-year-old victim’s family has asked for privacy. 

“The victim’s family is devastated by their loss and have asked for privacy,” Hamilton police said in a statement today (July 3). “They do not wish to release the name of their son at this time and Hamilton Police will respect their wishes.”

Bistoyong will appear in court later this afternoon.

On Sunday (July 2),  police responded to 911 calls about the stabbing at a home on Cadham Boulevard just after 10 p.m. Police said the victim was brought to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

Bistoyong was arrested this morning and charged with first-degree murder.
