Update: Man, 25, in critical condition after shooting at downtown Hamilton party

A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after a shooting during a party at a residence in downtown Hamilton over the weekend.

There were no charges in the shooting but a female partygoer, 22, was charged with attacking and trying to disarm an officer, according to Hamilton police.

Hamilton police said they were dispatched to the area of King Street E. and Steven Street over reports of a shooting shortly after midnight on Sunday, July 9. Police broke up the party and tried to clear the room after they arrived. They provided lifesaving aid to the man, 25, who was suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, according to police.

Authorities said a woman, 22, became confrontational, attacking and trying to disarm an officer. Haily Moreau was charged with disarming a peace officer.

Hamilton police are continuing to investigate the incident and interviewing witnesses. They are looking for video surveillance and ask anyone who may have information on the case to contact police at 905-546-3833.

“We continue to take a whole service approach to ensure all units are working to get guns off our streets,” the police said in a press release. They added that it will require help from the community to keep the streets safe since it’s “ not just a police issue, it’s a community issue.”
