UPDATE: 72 year old Clarington woman arrested after dead body found in Pickering

Durham police have laid charges in an ongoing homicide investigation.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 20), the body of a deceased female was located in a densely wooded area near Pickering Concession Road 9 and Sideline 28 in north Pickering.

“Members of our Major Crime – Homicide Unit have taken carriage of the investigation and this death is being treated as suspicious,” said police.

On Feb. 21, investigators arrested and charged a 72-year-old Clarington woman with Second Degree Murder. She has not been identified by police at this time.

Officers have also secured a residence on Fairway Drive in Wilmot Creek, Clarington to secure evidence.

Police say they’re still awaiting the results of a post-mortem from the Centre of Forensic Sciences before confirming the identity of the deceased female.
