Worker seriously injured, up to 5,000 left in the dark in Ajax Friday

A power worker was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital Friday afternoon in what Elexicon are calling a “serious workplace incident” in Ajax, leading to a major power outage that left as many as 5,000 people in the dark..

Elexicon Energy confirmed  the outage around 3 p.m. and would only say the worker, who was doing electrical work nearby following a house fire, suffered serious injuries.

The outage initially affected about 50 residents but worsened to include a wide swath of the town from Lakeridge Rd. to Station St. in the East and Kingston Rd. in the North.

Rerpairs were completed early the following day. There is no update on the injured worker’s condition.
