Up to $500 is available to stage a neighbourhood event to celebrate Burlington’s 150th birthday, and the mayor is urging you to take it.

In an interview with Khaled Iwamura of inhalton.com, Mayor Marianne Meed Ward encourage residents to come up with ideas for the celebration.

“It can be for whatever you want,” explained the mayor. “You can get $500 from the City which can be for insurance, it can be for booking talent, it could be a neighbourhood level party, it could be something in one of our parks, it is limited only by people’s imagination.”

She said in keeping with the birthday plans, the City hopes to stage 150 events this year.

The Love My Neighbourhood Program will provide a one-time grant per neighbourhood, resident or street section, condominium, or apartment group to host a gathering or ongoing activity.

There is a limited number of grants available and several guidelines need to be met for eligibility.

Complete rules and application forms can be found here.

“Get your neighbours together, put in an application, and have some fun,” said the mayor.
