Express trains that move passengers between Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and downtown Toronto will run less frequently this weekend as work crews complete track upgrades, transit officials say.
Union Pearson Express will run its trains every 30 minutes throughout the day and night this Saturday and Sunday instead of every 15 minutes, Metrolinx, the provincial agency that oversees the express service, said in an email update on Friday morning.
The express trains transport riders between Canada’s biggest and busiest airport and Union Station in downtown Toronto in just under 30 minutes, making several stops along the way.
Metrolinx said the modified UP Express service this weekend is necessary to accommodate planned track upgrades.
“These service modifications are required to make essential improvements to bring you better, faster and more frequent trips,” the transit agency said in its update to passengers and the broader community.
Regular express train service will resume on Monday morning.

When service is operating as usual, the UP Express runs trains every 15 minutes daily until 1 a.m. between downtown Toronto and Pearson.
Officials at Metrolinx said earlier the express train service “has become an integral part of transit in Toronto, having served more than 26 million passengers” since its inception in 2015.
In what at the time was the “first dedicated express air-rail link service in North America,” the UP Express took its first passengers between Pearson and Union Station in downtown Toronto on June 6, 2015, Ontario transit officials said earlier.
