Min Wen noticed something “looked different” about an email he recently received from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
Turns out the correspondence in the 28-year-old Mississauga man’s inbox appeared a bit different, as he described, because it contained a note telling him he’d won $25,000 a year for life playing the OLG’s Daily Grand lotto game.
Wen’s ticket matched all five main winning numbers in the May 30 draw, which was good enough for a half-share of second prize.
He opted for a lump sum payment of $250,000, according to the OLG.
Wen, who’s newly married, said the lottery win has come at a good time for he and his wife.
“It will go a long way in our lives. We will put this towards our real estate dreams and set ourselves up for a wonderful future together,” the Mississauga man said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.
Wen, who also regularly plays Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max in addition to Daily Grand, said he signed up for a lottery subscription earlier this year.
He purchased the winning ticket via OLG.ca. And when he checked it after the draw, he didn’t know at first that he’d won.
“I checked my email the morning after the draw and noticed an email from OLG that looked different than usual. I was shocked,” he said.
“I told my wife right away and she didn’t believe me,” Wen added, laughing. “This experience has been filled with shock and excitement. I feel so thankful.”
