Unlimited free fun with the Youth Week program in Oakville starts May 1

The Town of Oakville and community partners will be offering seven days of free fun and interactive activities as well as learning opportunities for ages 11 to 17 —in celebration of National Youth Week.

Beginning May 1 to May 7 organizers have prepared programs available to youth at various locations in the community.

For sports lovers there will be basketball, chess and pickleball on May 1 at Trafalgar Park Community Centre.

If you’re feeling artsy, there will be a crafting station with Arthouse as well as a chance to pick up some Bollywood steps in a fitness class— both happening at the River Oaks Community Centre on May 2.

For Youth looking for a job, an online learning opportunity hosted by Sheridan College Community Employment Services called Ace the Interview will be held on May 2 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A popular event called “The Drop” returns, which this time offering an evening of trivia, a Nintendo tournament and a leisurely swim. All will take place at the Glen Abbey Community Centre on May 5.

There will also be a special teen carnival set up like a mini Comic Con and it will be located at Oakville Public Library’s White Oaks Branch.

Near the end of the Youth Week Celebration there will be a live DJ at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex who will play tunes while participants skate their hearts out.

These programs have been curated to be engaging for youth while encouraging artistic expression and creativity.

According to the Oakville Parks and Recreational website the schedule is subject to change and some activities have capacity restrictions. Participants can secure their free spot online up to seven days in advance. Spaces will be offered to those waiting after the program start time. Walk-ins welcome as space permits.

That’s not all the perks for the week. Youth aged 13 to 19 can ride Oakville Transit for free starting May 1 with a valid PRESTO card. Customers who do not have a PRESTO card can purchase one for $6 at the ServiceOakville counter at Town Hall, Oakville Transit or at any Shopper’s Drug Mart location in Oakville.
