University of Toronto Mississauga to co-host first-ever All-Nations Powwow

The University of Toronto Mississauga’s (UTM) Indigenous Centre and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN) will be co-hosting UTM’s first-ever All-Nations Powwow this weekend.

The event, which will take place on Saturday, Mar. 25, will welcome members from across the University of Toronto, local Indigenous communities and the public. 

The event will be opened by Head Veteran and Elder Garry Sault, Water Keeper and Elder Val King, and Gimaa Stacey Laforme, Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, U of T Mississauga Vice-President and Principal Alexandra Gillespie, Her Worship, Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga, and Tee Duke, director of UTM’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives who will offer remarks as well as welcome guests.

Attendees can expect an entire day of traditional ceremonies, singing and dancing and a Jingle Dress competition called a special.

The event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
