A unique, Toronto bakery opened a location in Mississauga.

LÀ LÁ Bakeshop, which has locations in Toronto and Scarborough, opened in the Oceans Fresh Food Market at 4557 Hurontario St. in December.

The shop just celebrated its grand opening on Jan 20 and 21.

They are known for their unique pastries such as the salted egg cake and buns, durian croissants, Vietnamese coffee tiramisu and taro sticky rice cakes.

“We use nostalgic ingredients that will make the kid (and adult) in you smile with joy,” the bakeshop writes on its website.

“Compared to Western desserts, ours are a touch less sweet and balanced with a hint of salt. Distinctive ingredients we use include salted egg yolk, durian, and pork floss.”

LÀ LÁ Bakeshop is a new venture — they started as an online business in 2020 serving the Vietnamese diaspora in Ontario.

In 2021, they opened their first brick-and-mortar bakery in downtown Toronto. In the winter of 2022, they opened a second location in Sky City Shopping Centre in Scarborough.

In Vietnamese, “là lá” means “it’s a leaf,” according to the website.

The bakeshop logo is the golden ginko, “a tree that originates in Asia and has migrated to North America — a metaphor for our products, our team, and our vision,” the bakery writes on the website.
