With the longest winter ever almost in our rearview, Hamiltonians can start turning their hearts and minds toward summer’s delights and this year, there is a unique new ice cream shop coming to downtown for residents to indulge a sweet tooth and keep things cool.

Diced Ice, an ice cream shop that specializes in Thai rolled ice cream, is opening soon on Locke Street.

The new shop will be located right beside the Brux House at 132 Locke St. and is slated to open next month.

Thai rolled ice cream is different from the ice cream we have all come to know and love in that its liquid base is poured onto a frozen pan and then chopped, mixed, spread and rolled instead of being scooped from a bucket.

It’s typically made to order and as such, is easily customizable. The rolls of ice cream are then placed in a cup and toppings of one’s choice can then be piled on top.

While Dice Ice has yet to unveil its menu, the shop’s Instagram offers a little glimpse into some of the delicious possibilities with Thai rolled ice cream. The shop will also be serving up other Asian-inspired sweets and treats as things get up and running.

For now, the owners of Diced Ice are hard at work developing a menu and preparing the shop for its grand opening in time for Summer 2022.
