Unidentified suspect at large after hate-motivated assault in Hamilton

An unidentified suspect is wanted after he attacked a man on a Hamilton sidewalk in a hate-motivated assault.

The victim, age 50, was walking down Sterling Ave. toward Cline Ave., a residential neighbourhood in Westdale South, around 5 p.m. on Apr. 2.

As the victim approached the intersection, a stranger approached him. According to Hamilton Police, the stranger began to hurl obscenities and racial slurs at the victim before physically attacking him.

The victim and the suspect did not know each other, police confirmed. Investigators did not comment on the nature of the victim’s injuries, if any.

The suspect then fled the area, running from Cline Ave to. Paisley Ave. and finally up Dromore Cr. He is described as a white man between 35 and 40 years old, standing six-foot-two, and weighing 250 pounds. He has short “average looking” hair, according to police, a was wearing a blue-green light winter coat.

“Detectives are appealing to area residents and business owners to check their security cameras between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023 for any suspicious activity and to contact police,” investigators said.
