A U.S. sandwich chain known for freshly sliced meats and cheeses on the spot and for using actor Danny DeVito as a pitchman is opening a location in Pickering next week, part of the company’s grand expansion into Canada.
Jersey Mike’s will hold a VIP grand opening at their first Durham Region restaurant at 570 Kingston Road, Unit 8 on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., with the public opening set for Wednesday.
Founded in 1956, there are more than 4,000 Jerey Mike’s locations open and in development, with seven open in Canada and more – including Pickering – on the way.
The first locations of Jersey Mike’s in Ontario opened in Kitchener and London, but the company has opened two restaurants in Toronto, with two in Mississauga and locations in in Owen Sound, Brantford and Guelph coming.
Operated by Redberry Restaurants, the plan is for 300 locations in Canada over the next ten years.
Jersey Mike’s in Pickering will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
