Police in the U.S. have arrested and charged an Ontario man after they say over 120 kilograms of cocaine was found in a trucker’s load.
The seizure started as a traffic stop on Monday in Porter County, Ind. when the Indiana State Police say officers pulled over a truck driver from Canada at a weigh station on Interstate 94.
Reports say the stop was related to “a motor carrier violation,” but the traffic stop turned into a drug investigation with a state police K-9 unit alerting to the truck’s trailer.
That’s where state troopers say they found some 124 kilograms or around 273 pounds of white powder packed into cardboard boxes.
A field test revealed the powder was cocaine, and police say 49-year-old Naseeb Chisty of Etobicoke was arrested and faces multiple drug-related offences.
The Ontario man faces charges of dealing cocaine, which is a Level 2 felony in the U.S., and possession of cocaine, a Level 3 felony, according to reports.
