Two suspects are wanted in connection to the fire that shut down a Walmart in Burlington last Thursday.

Halton Region Police indicate two young males were spotted using lighters to set fire to a wooden pallet around 7:15 p.m. at the store located at 2065 Fairview St.

The flames were quickly doused but not before the store was evacuated as the Burlington Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.

Witnesses say the suspects fled the store on foot.

The resulting damage and clean-up closed Walmart for a couple of days but it has since reopened.

Walmart later released a statement confirming that the incident was an act of arson.

“Rest assured, we are cooperating fully with the police investigation,” the statement read. “We will do everything we can to ensure the arsonist is identified and held accountable, including by assessing our legal options to seek compensation from the arsonist for the damages caused by this act.”

There were no injuries reported and the company said customers and all staff who were in the store at the time were evacuated quickly and safely.

Many who were in the store at the time of the evacuation said there was a large presence of firefighters who arrived at the scene.

Walmart urged anyone with information about the case to contact police.
