Two suspects charged following a drug trafficking investigation in Welland

Niagara Regional Police Service have arrested two individuals in connection to an ongoing investigation involving the sale of illegal drugs in the City of Welland.

On Thursday (Mar. 30) 2023, police say they ran a controlled drugs and substances warrant at a residence in the area of Quaker Rd/ Goodwillie Dr in the City of Welland.

As a result of the search, detectives recovered and seized several items including:

  •  Glock pistol .40 cal. – loaded – modified for fully automatic
  • Browning pistol .25 cal. – loaded
  • 2.36 kg of fentanyl (approx. street value – $708,000)
  • 78.7 gm of crystal methamphetamine (approx. street value – $7870)
  • $160,000 in currency
  • 1.3 kg cocaine (approx. street value – $131,610)

The first suspect is 34-year-old Jonathan Mesrob Zadikian of Welland who has been charged with multiple offences including possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to court imposed prohibition.

The second suspect is 24-year-old Desiree Nicole Stewart of Welland who has also been charged with multiple offences including, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a firearm where she was not the registered license holder.

Zadikian and Stewart both attended video bail hearings on Mar. 31, 2023, with the Welland Courthouse.

Zadikian was held in custody where he remains.

Police say Stewart had been held in custody, but was released on Apr. 6, with a future court date of May.  4, 2023.
