Police are investigating two shootings that cracked Whitby’s night time quiet Thursday evening in apparently separate incidents.

Officers from the Central West Division responded to a shooting call on Underwood Drive where they found a man suffering critical injuries from a gun shot wound. He was rushed to hospital for treatment. Durham Police have released sparse details about the shooting, except to say the Underwood shooting was an “isolated incident.”

The second incident happened early this morning when a man showed up at a local hospital, also suffering from a critical gun shot injury. The man was taken to a trauma center in Toronto.

It is unknown at this time if either shooting was related to the hours-long stand-off that happened yesterday afternoon in the Ritson Road and Highway 401 area in Oshawa. Reports say there was a police chase from Toronto that ended in Oshawa with suspects barricaded in a residence, surrounded by tactical police teams from at least two jurisdictions.

There is also at least one unconfirmed report that the stand-off resulted in a fatality.
