Two schools put on hold-and-secure after possible weapon sighting in Brampton

For the second time in as many days, possible weapon sightings led police to put schools in Brampton on hold-and-secure orders.
The incident happened in the area of Sandalwood Parkway East and Torbram Road in Brampton shortly before 1:30 p.m. according to Peel Regional Police, who say there was a “potential weapon seen.”
Police placed both Sandalwood Heights Secondary School and Robert J. Lee Public School on hold-and-secure orders as a precaution and asked residents and drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes if possible.
The hold-and-secure orders were lifted shortly before 3 p.m., police said.
A similar incident on Wednesday in Brampton saw four schools placed on a hold-and-secure and another went into lockdown after police received reports of a “male possibly seen with a weapon.” One male was taken into custody but police have not said whether any charges were laid.
Unlike a full lockdown where there is a possible internal threat that needs containment, a hold-and-secure is used by police when it’s believed there is an external threat.
