More QEW lanes in Mississauga to be shut down due to construction

Two QEW ramps will be closed and a busy road near the highway in Mississauga will be partially closed later this week as crews ramp up work on the highway bridge over the Credit River.

Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project overseeing the major bridge rehabilitation project say the QEW eastbound off-ramp to South Sheridan Way and eastbound on-ramp from South Sheridan Way will be closed at night/overnight this Thursday (March 9) and Saturday (March 11).

Also, South Sheridan Way from Mississauga Rd. to Indian Grove will have one lane shut down from midnight Saturday until noon on Sunday.

Full-ramp closures are scheduled for: the eastbound off-ramp to South Sheridan Way on March 9 from midnight to 5 a.m. the following day and on March 11 from midnight to noon the following day; and the eastbound on-ramp from South Sheridan Way on March 9 from midnight to 5 a.m. and on March 11 from midnight to noon the following day.

Project leaders say the closures are required “to facilitate saw cutting and island removals and temporary concrete barrier installations” in the work area along the QEW.

Meanwhile, starting last night (March 6), four lanes of the QEW in Mississauga will be closed to traffic for 23 of the next 26 nights/overnights as crews continue their work.

The lane closures continue for the rest of March with the exception of only three nights, all Sundays–March 12, 19 and 26.

Also, South Sheridan Way between the QEW eastbound off-ramp and Indian Grove Rd. will see a single-lane closure March 6 to 10 and March 13 to 17 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

This is to allow for temporary paving and other work along the north shoulder of South Sheridan Way, officials say.

Temporary nighttime/overnight closures have been commonplace since last fall both on the QEW and nearby roads due to the massive project that began well over a year ago.

More traffic disruptions are anticipated as work proceeds in the coming weeks. Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of the project.
