Two people are in hospital in stable condition following a daytime shooting in Hamilton.

Hamilton police say that shortly before 1:15 pm on May 9, officers were called to the Sanford Ave. N. and King St. E. area to respond to reports of a shooting.

Police say officers found two people suffering from gunshot wounds upon arriving at the scene.

A nearby high school was placed in hold and secure as a precaution and the partial lockdown has since been lifted.

Police believe the victims were targeted.

Detectives are asking residents in the area to review any security surveillance footage recorded between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. and report any suspicious activity to police. Residents are also encouraged to contact police if they have dashcam footage that could help with the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective David Brewster in the Investigative Services Division at 905-546-4067.
