Two Durham Regional Police officers suffered “significant” injuries after a confrontation with a man who had entered the police-only parking at Central East Division in downtown Oshawa Wednesday evening, with the suspect needing to be tasered to bring him under control.
The man, listed as having ‘no fixed address,’ entered the parking lot at 77 Centre St. S. at 7 p.m. Wednesday and confronted two officers. “The suspect approached and assaulted the two officers resulting in significant injuries to both,” police said.
Other officers responded to the emergency alert for “immediate assistance” and were able to restrain the suspect and take him into custody after deploying a conducted energy weapon (taser).
The injured officers were taken to Oshawa Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Mustafa Sadat, 25, has been charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of assaulting police.
He was held for a bail hearing.
