Two new shawarma joints open in Mississauga

A made-in-Ontario Mediterranean restaurant chain continues to expand with two new locations in Mississauga, serving up shawarma to the city.

Tahini’s, a Middle Eastern fast-casual restaurant, was founded in London when brothers Omar Hamam and Aly Hamam rebranded a downtown restaurant that they were running in that city to Tahini’s in 2018.

They’ve since expanded to a whopping 35 locations throughout Southern Ontario including Aurora, Barrie, Brampton, Brantford, Etobicoke, Hamilton, Keswick, Oshawa, Pickering, Richmond Hill, Scarborough, Toronto and Whitby.

Now they’ve added Mississauga to the list of host cities with locations at 515 Lakeshore St. and 6042 Glen Erin Dr. Like all Tahini’s locations the pair focus on “Mediterranean dishes such as our popular Chicken Shawarma wraps, falafels, samosas, gyros, rice bowls, fusion dishes like the Habibi bowl and Butter Chicken Shawarma since 2012.”

The chain is set to keep growing with locations coming to Alliston, Chatham, Courtice, Kingston, Kitchener, Guelph, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Sault Ste. Marie, and Woodstock. They’re expected to head out of Ontario later this year with a location in Calgary.
