Two more COVID deaths in Oshawa as case numbers continue to fall

Two more deaths in Oshawa over the weekend have been attributed to the COVID-19 virus as the active case count and daily case totals continue to fall.

Oshawa continues to be a hot spot for the virus with 52,31 and 21 new cases reported over the past three days. Uxbridge, in contrast, reported just four, including just one new case Friday.

The active case count is now 1,585 – down almost 900 from Friday and nearly 7,000 fewer than a week ago. The number of people in hospital went up slightly to 141 (from 139 Friday), with 13 people in ICU and 105 ‘under investigation’ for the virus.

Outbreaks in the workplace are now at zero and institutional outbreaks are at 28 (down five) with 80 people isolating (down from 128). Hillsdale Estates, which saw 120 residents and staff test positive for the virus since an outbreak was declared December 27, has reduced that number to nine. The biggest outbreaks currently are at Abbeylawn (16) and Bay Ridges (12) of Pickering.

More than 86 per cent of the 12-plus population of Durham is now double vaxxed and 40.2 per cent have now received their booster shot. The 5-11 demographic, which only got the go-ahead to take the jab six weeks or so ago, is now majority vaccinated (52.3 per cent) and nearly twenty per cent have got their second shot as well.
