There were two more deaths from COVID-19 in Niagara Region last night. When the daily figures were released today, the death toll in the region rose from 441 to 443.

The news doesn’t get any better as there were 47 new cases today, the second-highest daily amount in a month that’s just 10 days old. With only eight cases resolved, Niagara is sitting at 360 active cases.

The region health unit hasn’t mentioned any Omicron variant found in Niagara so all are likely being attributed to the Delta variant which has been the cause for three months now.

Between them, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls have nearly half the ongoing cases for the entire region with 90 and 81 cases respectively. From there, it’s a sizeable drop-off for Fort Erie, Welland and Grimsby, which have 33, 31 and 28 cases.

Lincoln and Niagara-on-the-Lake have 19 cases apiece, followed by Thorold at 18. After that, both Pelham and West Lincoln have 13 while Port Colborne has eight ongoing with Wainfleet sitting at four.
