Two people have been arrested after a police cruiser and vehicle crashed in Brampton on Wednesday (April 6).

Around 9:45 a.m., Peel Regional Police say officers were called about a suspicious vehicle in the area of Sandalwood Parkway East and Richvale Drive North in Brampton.

When officers arrived on scene, a spokesperson said the suspect vehicle collided with a police cruiser at the intersection before striking another vehicle.

The suspect vehicle reportedly flipped over and broke through a fence in a residential area.

Police said both men in the suspect vehicle were taken into custody.

One of the suspects was injured in the crash and taken to a trauma centre, and another man in the third vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Depending on the extent of the injuries the province’s Special Investigation Unit may be called in to investigate the crash.

Emergency crews are on scene and have blocked off roads in the area.

Eastbound lanes of Sandalwood to Kennedy Road have been closed as well as westbound Sandalwood to Royal Palm Drive.

The northbound lanes of Richvale Drive at Mount Pleasant Drive and Richvale Drive at Cassander Crescent have also been closed.

Police are advising motorists to find alternate routes and avoid the area of Sandalwood Parkway East and Richvale Drive North if possible.
