Two men charged with the June 1 murder of Trurell Brown of Ajax

Homicide investigators have laid first degree murder charges against two men in relation to the June 1 death of Trurell Brown of Ajax.

On Wednesday investigators from Durham Regional Police’s Major Crime – Homicide Unit arrested Jordan Mendez, 29 and Leighton Hopkinson, 30, both from Toronto. Both men were charged with first degree murder.

Brown was found suffering from gunshot wounds at a home on Smith Lane, near Westney Road North and Rossland Road West, just before midnight on June 1.

The 29 year-old man was transported to a Toronto trauma centre, where he was later pronounced dead.

Brown was Durham’s second homicide victim of 2021.
