Two jumps in gas prices expected in Mississauga, Brampton and Hamilton

The relief we are seeing at the gas pumps today is likely short-lived as prices are set to jump again on Saturday morning (May 21).

While drivers in Mississauga, Brampton and Hamilton and the rest of Southern Ontario are paying $196.6 per litre today, prices are expected to rise four cents on Saturday and possibly two more cents on Sunday at which point the cost will be $202.6 per litre.

Dan McTeague of the watchdog group Canadians for Affordable Energy predicts prices will continue to rise throughout the summer months as oil companies take advantage of vacation drivers in the U.S. He said as prices rise in the U.S. they are soon to follow in Canada. As a result he expects gas prices here to hover around the $2.10 mark by next week.

Other factors pushing up the price, he said, include the war in the Ukraine and the weather situation in the Gulf Coast, places where much of the oil supply comes from.
