UPDATE: Police said one woman has died following the crash.
Two people have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle smashed through a bus shelter in Pickering Wednesday afternoon.
Durham Police did not say if the victims were inside the bus shelter or in the vehicle when the crash occurred. It is also unclear if there were other injuries but Air Ornge was reported to be at the scene.
Police said in an update that one of the victims was an adult female who has since been pronounced dead, while a male adult victim was rushed to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious injuries.
Kingston Road between Brock Road and Valleyfarm Road has been shut down while police investigate.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Police say to expect traffic disruptions while the investigation is underway.

One female adult has been pronounced deceased.
A male adult is transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious injuries.
