Tim Hortons launches its 25th Smile Cookie campaign this week and local stores will be donating the proceeds to two very important Hamilton charities.

From Monday (Sept. 13) to Sunday (Sept. 19), Tim Hortons restaurants in Hamilton will donate 100 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of the always delectable Smile Cookie to Hamilton Food Share and Food4Kids Hamilton.

From its inception in 1996, the Smile Cookie campaign has raised funds for a variety of organizations in Hamilton but the importance of the two being supported this year cannot be understated.

Food4Kids facilitates food programs in 63 Hamilton elementary schools and six Hamilton high schools. Each week, according to the Food4Kids website, these schools receive 1,300 packages of healthy food to distribute to children enrolled in the program.

Hamilton Food Share is the hub of the city’s emergency food network. They collect and distribute, even source, food for local food banks and charities helping to feed vulnerable members of our community.

Last year alone, Hamilton food share raised and distributed over 3.35 million pounds of nutritionally rich foods, their website said.

In its first year, the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign was launched to raise funds for the Hamilton Children’s Hospital, and now, the campaign supports more than 600 charities, hospitals, and community programs across the country.

Last year, Smile Cookies raised more than $11 million, a record for the initiative.

The cookies are available at participating locations for $1 a cookie. Boxes of Smile Cookies can also be pre-ordered 48 hours in advance.

More information about the campaign can be found on the Tim Hortons website. Check out Food4Kids Hamilton and Hamilton Food Share to learn more about what they do and how to help.
