Two Hamiltonians are celebrating big time after winning big in the lottery.

For Stoney Creek’s Alice Jakubowski, it was a win that was decades in the making.

“”I am so grateful. It is exciting to win a big amount after all these years of playing,” Jakubowski said in an OLG press release. “It’s hard to believe.”

Jakubowski matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the May 18, 2021, Daily Keno (evening) draw to win $100,000.

“I was at home when I checked my ticket, and I was in shock when I realized I won,” she said. “I didn’t believe it – I was so overwhelmed.”

She said she plans to pay some bills and treat herself to a new barbecue and day at the spa with her win.

Jakubowski’s winning ticket was purchased at K&J Variety on Westoak Trails Boulevard in Oakville.

Meanwhile, Hamilton’s Carlos Palacio, 30, won $333,333.40 in the June 22, 2021, Lotto Max draw. He shared a $1 million Maxmillions prize with two other tickets.

“I always play Quick Picks,” Palacio, who said he plays Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49 and Ontario 49 weekly, said.

The construction worker and father said he checked his ticket at the gas station and couldn’t believe the prize amount.

“I was shaking. I was so happy and excited,” he said. “I have so many mixed emotions. It’s happiness and joy.”

Palacio said he told his parents about his big win immediately.

“I needed to tell them in person because I am a joker,” he said. “They were happier than I was!”

He plans to invest and share his winnings with his family.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell on Plains Road in Burlington.
