A young man and a teenager from Ajax are facing charges after allegedly tearing up an Ajax suburb on their dirt bikes and fleeing from police.

Residents of the Pickering Beach Road and Dreyer Drive area of Ajax called police with a driving complaint around 4 pm September 23.

When officers arrived, one of the bikes raced up to the rear of the cruiser on the sidewalk, drove up a lane for oncoming traffic and popped a wheelie and sped off, vanishing into the surrounding forest, police allege.

Durham Police says officers did not engage in a chase due to safety concerns. Instead, they called police helicopter Air1 to search the woods.

Air1 reported the bikers drove recklessly through streets and park on their way to a house. The chopper watched as the motorcyclists hid their bikes in an outdoor garage, police say.  According to Air1, a woman helped them hide the bikes before the trio went inside the home.

The man, 24, was charged with a battery of charges including; Dangerous driving, stunt driving, stunt with a lifted tire, driving without a licence, plates or insurance and failure to wear a helmet.

The teen, 16, faces the same except the stunt charge for a wheelie. He has, however, been charged with three counts of stunt drivng.

Additionally, a 50-year-old woman has been charged with obstructing police. Police encourage anyone with information to call Cst. McDonald at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2521.
