Two dead in Caledon Canada Day house fire

Around 6:40 a.m. on Friday, the Caledon OPP say Caledon Fire were called to a home on Mountainview Rd. neary Hwy 9 in Caledon.

When emergency crews arrived they found a residence fully engulfed in flames. Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes, but two people were unaccounted for.

Two victims were later recovered from the scene and pronounced dead.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released, and police said on Friday that the identities of the victims hadn’t been confirmed.

After the deadly blaze, Caledon Fire Chief David Forfar urged all residents to test their smoke alarms and make an escape plan “with two ways out” in case of fire.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal, the OPP Central Region Forensic Identification Services, Caledon Fire and Emergency Services, and the Office of the Chief Coroner were all on scene on Friday to investigate the incident.
