Two charged in connection to Oshawa shooting death from January

Two have been charged in connection to Oshawa’s first murder of 2022, the fatal shooting of a man in January.

Durham Region Police launched their investigation after receiving a 911 around 11:20 p.m. January 3. Gunfire cracked the nighttime quiet on Madison Ave, just north of the Oshawa Centre.

When the arrived officers found a man, who remains unidentified by police, suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedic rushed the victim to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Months later police announced a couple of arrests in the investigation. First is Kody Lim, 19 of Toronto arrested on August 23 on second degree murder charges.

Secondly police picked up Kody Cummings, 25 of Peterborough, for a charge of accessory to murder after the fact. Both remain in custody until a bail hearing.

This was Durham Region first murder of 2022. However, it was also the third in as many weeks. In Ajax Mahishan Kugathasan, 19, was killed on December 23 and Franklin Owusu, 27, was killed on December 28.

There have been nine more homicide investigations in Durham since the January shooting with the Region’s tenth murder in July. This is already past entire year’s total in 2021 as violent crime rates rise.
