The recovery of two stolen tractor trailers full of chocolate and nuts worth more than $600,000 has led to criminal charges against two Brampton men.
York Regional Police say the stolen trucks and food items were recovered following an ongoing cargo theft investigation that began in November.
The department’s Auto Theft Unit had indentified a group it believed was involved in the thefts and as the investigation unfolded officers located a stolen tractor trailer loaded with 55 skids of chocolate in Toronto. Then, on December 13, investigators were led to a location in Vaughan where another stolen tractor trailer was found. This truck contained 22 skids of pecans.
As a result of the investigation two people from Brampton are among three charged with the crime.
Manpreet Samra, 41, of Brampton and Varinder Dhillon, 35, also of Brampton, are facing charges including trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. They are also charged with possession of heroin and crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking.
