The fourth wave appears to have hit Durham Region with a vengeance with 28 new cases reported yesterday, the highest total in months.

Ajax and Oshawa each reported seven new cases, with Pickering (5) and Whitby (4) also recording high totals. More than a third of the Tuesday case load came from the 20-29 age group.

Four people are in hospital with the virus, with one in ICU. There are 104 active cases.

The total number of people who have caught the Delta variant is now up to 177, with seven active.

Close to half a million Durham residents have now received at least one dose of the vaccination and nearly 450,000 people – representing 70.3 per cent of the 12-plus population – are fully vaccinated.
