A 67-year-old Hamilton man who works as a private tutor is wanted in connection with sexual offences committed against several children.

York Regional Police has obtained a warrant for the man’s arrest. On Nov. 10, a week ago tomorrow, police received reports from two sets of parents in Richmond Hill, Ont., after their children disclosed they were sexually assaulted during private tutoring sessions.

Investingating officers learned that both families hired the same tutor to provide lessons to their children in their homes. All three victims were under the age of 16.

Investigators have been unable to locate the suspect and believe he may have left the country. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Investigators believe that there may be more victims. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Alistair Martin-Smith, 67, is wanted on three counts apiece of sexual assault and sexual interference.

The police believe there might be more victims. They say, by defininon, “A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature.”

There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. A survivor can report the incident online if:

  • Not in immediate danger
  • The person who assaulted them is not present
  • There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred
  • They have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not

Anyone with information about the investigation or whereabouts may call the York police SVU (special victim units; 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7071). They may also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at (1-800-222-TIPS or www.1800222tips.com). Tips can also be reported to the Hamilton Police Service.
