Update: some of the upcoming events have been moved or cancelled “due to unforeseen circumstances,” the city said.

Aspiring athletes of all skill levels and abilities can get active with a roster of accessible sporting events like wheelchair basketball coming to Brampton this month.

The city is prepping for a week of physical activity for its upcoming Accessible Recreation Week, offering adapted sports programming for residents who have physical or cognitive limitations. It’s all part of National Accessibility Week, an initiative dedicated to celebrating Canadians with disabilities while promoting accessibility and inclusion across the country.

Brampton Recreation will be hosting nine events for Accessible Recreation Week including Challengers Baseball for players living with physical or cognitive disabilities, wheelchair basketball, a drop-in dance and sledge hockey.

“Sport and physical activity improves overall mental and physical health, strengthens communities, and provides opportunities for strong social connections,” the city said of its Accessible Recreation Week programs. “As an exceptionally diverse and growing city, the City of Brampton strives to remove barriers to participation, and to ensure that all residents have access to recreation services, including a broad range of sport and fitness programs.”
