A New Brunswick man is facing charges after he got his truck stuck under a rail bridge in Newcastle Wednesday night, backing up traffic on Hwy 2/King St. for several hours before the semi was sprung free.

Durham Regional Police say there were height limit signs “clearly visible” on the bridge, located near Farrow Ave., but the driver attempted to make it under anyway. The 24 year-old driver was subsequently charged with careless driving.

It is unclear if attempts were made by the truck driver to deflate the tires to extricate him from his predicament.

There were no injuries and the CP trains were not running at the time of the incident.
