Trio from Brampton and Caledon facing drug charges after breakdown in stolen ride: police

Police stopping to help a stranded driver say they charged a trio from Brampton and Caledon after their broken down ride turned out to be stolen. 

On Thursday around 9:50 a.m., police say members of the Chatham-Kent OPP were on patrol westbound on the 401 near the 75 kilometer marker when an officer saw a motorist in need of assistance.

Police say the driver had run out of gas. But while helping the driver, police say officers discovered that the vehicle was previously reported stolen from the Toronto area. 

Three occupants of the vehicle were arrested, and police have charged Harminder Signh, 45, of Caledon with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 
  • Two counts of Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Heroin 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

Harmanpreet Signh, 23, of Brampton was charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Preet Dhillon, 32, of Brampton has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine 

Harminder Signhaccused was held for a bail hearing, while Harmanpreet Signh and Dhillon were released from custody and arescheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham at a later date to answer to the charges.
