More than 20 different models of vehicles are recalled from 10 different makes by Transport Canada for issues ranging from minor back-up camera failures to fires caused by short circuiting seat heater wires.

BMW, Jeep, Audi, Kia, and Nissan are just some of the makes of vehicle being recalled.

See below for more information on each vehicle including the model, year, and specific issue triggering the recall.

SUV recalled by BMW

Model: X7

Year: 2019-2022

Issue: On certain vehicles, the springs that lock the backrest for the third-row seat may not have been installed correctly. As a result, the seat backrest may not fully lock in place. A seat backrest that isn’t locked could move in a crash and increase the risk of injury.

What you should do: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the third-row seat and reinstall the compression springs, as necessary.

To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you do not transport any passengers in the third-row seat until the recall repairs have been completed.

SUV recalled by RAM, JEEP

Model: 1500, WRANGLER, GLADIATOR

Year: 2020-2021

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.0 L diesel engine, a software problem could cause the radio to reset. If you shift to reverse while the computer is resetting, the rearview camera image will not appear on the display.

Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. A rearview camera image that is slow to appear could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

What you should do: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the radio software.

SUV recalled by JEEP

Model: GLADIATOR

Year: 2022

Issue: On one vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission, the parking wheel in the transmission could become loose. If this happens, the parking pawl may not engage when you shift to park.

As a result, the vehicle could roll away if the parking brake isn’t used. A parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash.

What you should do: The affected vehicle has not been sold to a retail owner. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada will replace the transmission before the vehicle is sold.

SUV recalled by AUDI

Model: Q5, SQ5

Year: 2022

Issue: On a small number of Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback models, the rear hatch lid may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the latch could break or detach in a crash and allow the rear hatch to deform more than it is designed to. A rear hatch that deforms too much during a crash could lead to an increased risk of injury.

What you should do: Audi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the rear hatch lid.

SUV recalled by VOLKSWAGEN

Model: ATLAS CROSS SPORT, ATLAS

Year: 2022

Issue: On certain vehicles, the trailer hitch bolts may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the bolts could loosen, and the hitch could detach from the vehicle while towing a trailer. A trailer hitch that detaches from a vehicle could create a risk of a crash.

What you should do: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to tighten the trailer hitch bolts.

SUV recalled by KIA

Model: SPORTAGE

Year: 2023

Issue: On certain vehicles, a bracket for the folding rear seats can damage the wiring for the rear seat heater. If this happens, the wiring could short circuit. A short circuit could create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with fold-and-dive rear seats with the seat heater option.

What you should do: Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reinforce the rear seat heater wire harness.

Kia advises that you may continue to drive your vehicle, but park it outside and away from structures until the recall repairs are completed.

SUV recalled by NISSAN

Model: ROGUE

Year: 2021-2022

Issue: On certain vehicles, the left- and right-rear seat belts may not retract to their storage position.

Canadian regulations require seat belts to retract fully when not in use. A seat belt that doesn’t retract properly could be difficult to use. Not wearing a seat belt can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

What you should do: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the left- and right-rear seat belts. They will be replaced, if necessary.

SUV recalled by TOYOTA, LEXUS

Model: TUNDRA, NX 250

Year: 2022

Issue: On certain vehicles, a programming error could cause the parking brake system to malfunction. If this happens, a warning light will turn on and the message “Parking Brake Malfunction, Visit Your Dealer” will display.

Also, you may not be able to apply the parking brake, and if the vehicle isn’t in park, it could roll away. A parked vehicle that moves unexpectedly could increase the risk of an injury or a crash

What you should do: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the skid control ECU.

Car recalled by AUDI

Model: Q5, RS 6, S7, S8, S5, A7, SQ5, A5, RS 7, Q8, E-TRON, RS 5, E-TRON GT, SQ7, SQ8, S6, S4, A6, A4, A8, Q7, RS Q8

Year: 2021

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

What you should do: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the infotainment software.

Car recalled by VOLVO, POLESTAR

Model: POLESTAR 2

Year: 2021-2023

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the top-view camera to display instead of the rearview camera image when you are reversing.

Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when reversing. A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 360-degree park assist camera.

What you should do: Polestar will notify owners in writing and send a wireless over-the-air update to each vehicle. If the update cannot be completed successfully, you will be notified to schedule an appointment to have the update performed by a dealer.
