Transit fares going up July 1 in this Ontario region

Transit fares in Durham Region are set to go up July 1, with adult fares jumping 13 cents to $3.73 for a single trip with a PRESTO tap.

The fare increase is part of Durham Region Transit’s 10-year strategy to invest in service enhancements, transition to a battery electric fleet and offer new facilities and amenities.

Monthly passes for adults using the PRESTO tap are rising to $134.28 (from $129.60) and cash (exact change only) and debit and credit card fares are climbing from $4.60 to $4.75.

Youth (13-19) single trips with PRESTO are going from $3.24 to $3.36, the monthly pass to $107.42 (from $103.68) and cash and debit or credit card fares will rise from $4.60 to $4.75.

Customers who are 13 to 19 years of age can purchase a Y10 monthly pass and pay only $84.24 per month for unlimited travel.

Seniors (65-plus) fares are going up to $2.46 (from $2.38) with PRESTO and monthly passes will jump from $51.84 to $53.71. Cash and debit/credit purchases will climb to $3.45 and $4.75 respectively, from $3.38 and $4.60.

Children 12 and under are free.

Customers on Social Assistance in Durham Region can access the Transit Assistance Program to pay-as-you-go or pay monthly.

With TAP you can have unlimited access to transit services for the month. With pay as you go you pay for the first eligible 14 trips in a month up to $52.22 and then ride at no charge for the remainder of the month. With the monthly pass you can pay $52.22 up front and get unlimited rides.

Eligible customers can bring their monthly social assistance statement to DRT PRESTO locations at Oshawa Centre Guest Services (419 King Street West, Oshawa), Durham Region Headquarters (605 Rossland Road East, Whitby), DRT Customer Service Centre (110 Westney Road South, Ajax), Pickering Town Centre Guest Services (1355 Kingston Road, Pickering) or Scugog Municipal Office (181 Perry Street, Port Perry).

Since March 14, 2022, travel on DRT is free when transferring to or from GO Transit. For more details on the co-fare agreement, visit prestocard.ca.
