Train crash into snowplow causes ‘significant’ delays on Lakeshore East GO line in Ontario

Riders are being warned of lengthy delays on the Lakeshore East line after a train crashed into a snowplow.

GO Transit said the collision happened between Eglinton GO and Guildwood GO in Scarborough, and crews are working to clear the tracks “so that we can resume full service.”

A spokesperson with Metrolinx confirmed it was VIA rail train and not a GO train that was involved in the collision.

Trains are limited to one track and GO Transit says there will be “significant delays” travelling through the area.

“In addition to delays please also anticipate trip modifications and possible cancellations as we work to keep trains moving,” an update reads.

The Lakeshore West line is also experiencing significant slowdowns on Thursday, with delay of 20 minutes from Union Station to West Harbour GO station. Southern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area were slammed by heavy snowfall on Thursday, leading to collisions and delays.

Air Canada officials say the significant winter storm  is impacting flight schedules on Thursday at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and elsewhere.

The OPP is advising drivers against any unnecessary travel and to prepare for poor conditions on the roads.
