The house fire in downtown Oshawa Monday morning that claimed the life of one man has been deemed “suspicious” by the city’s Fire Chief.

Derrick Clark said the fire appears to be deliberately set with multiple spots in at least three areas of the house, located at 99 Court Street, immediately south of the Tribute Communities Centre.

No details have released of the body found by firefighters inside the home, but sources say the man was in his 50s. The residence was known by neighbours as a drug house.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and Durham Police are on the scene and are investigating.
