Parts of Main St. North in Brampton will be down to one lane in both directions while crews tackle watermain repairs over the next few weeks.

Starting on Monday (July 25), the Region of Peel will begin replacing the watermain and sanitary sewers along Main St. between Nelson St. West to Wellington St.

The Region says workers will need to occupy the two west lanes of Main St. North between Nelson St. and McKinney Ln. for approximately three weeks while emergency repairs are underway.

“These lane restrictions may cause traffic delays. We ask for your patience and will try to minimize any delays,” the Region said in a statement about the repairs.

The work will also occupy Diplock Ln., with temporary lane reductions on Nelson St. West.

On-street parking on Main St. North will not be available from 63 Main St. North to Nelson St. West on the west side, and Vivian Ln. to Nelson St. West on the east side while repairs are underway.

The work is part of replacement of infrastructure along Main St., Queen St., James St., Maple Ave., and Park Hill Crt.

The contractor’s normal working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and are consistent with Brampton bylaws.

The Region said while the repairs and traffic impacts “may cause some inconvenience,” the current schedule would require your neighbourhood to be under construction for a longer period of time.

During the lane restrictions on Main St., deliveries can still be made outside the work zone but couriers and drivers should avoid deliveries on Main Street where only one lane is available for traffic flow.

Deliveries can be made using Diplock Ln. for west side businesses, or Garden Square Ln. and Vivian Ln. for east side businesses.

Pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers are being advised to take extra precautions to stay safe while in the construction zone.

“When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible,” the Region advised.
