Four lanes of the QEW in Mississauga will be closed to traffic at night/overnight next Monday (Feb. 27), and if needed, Tuesday, as crews continue to work on the highway bridge over the Credit River.

Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project overseeing the major bridge rehabilitation project say the lane closures will take place on the QEW eastbound between Erin Mills Pkwy. and Hurontario St. (two lanes) and the QEW westbound from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. (two lanes).

Additionally, the eastbound QEW on-ramp from northbound Mississauga Rd. will be fully closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday (Feb. 20).

Project leaders say two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes will be closed at various times:

  • QEW eastbound lanes–first lane closed 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and second lane from midnight to 5 a.m.
  • QEW westbound lanes–first lane closed 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., second lane shut down from midnight to 5 a.m.

“This closure is to facilitate a bridge inspection of the existing Credit River Bridge,” project leaders say.

Officials note that the work depends on the weather and can be rescheduled at any time.

Temporary nighttime/overnight closures have been commonplace the past several months both on the QEW and on Mississauga Rd. where it connects with the busy highway due to the massive project that began well over a year ago.

All work is being completed in order to facilitate ongoing winter staging activities, project officials say, adding more traffic disruptions are anticipated as work proceeds in the coming weeks.

Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of the project.
