Oakville drivers planning to use Trafalgar Road this weekend are being asked to drive carefully through a section of the road.

Halton Region’s improvements to the busy road continue and Saturday plans include storm sewer work, between Sheridan College and Hays Boulevard, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Phase 3 of the project has officially started and to facilitate work along the centre of the corridor, traffic has been diverted to the east and west sides of Trafalgar Road, between Leighland Avenue and Hays Boulevard.

Ongoing maintenance work, such as sod restoration, tree planning and bike path asphalt, will also continue on the east and west sides of the corridor.

The road project is being done to help address future traffic demands and provide safe travel options for motorists, pedestrians for cyclists.

Improvements include widening Trafalgar Rd. from four to six lanes, along with new bus stops and shelters, sidewalks, off-road bike lanes and noise walls.

There will also be new traffic signals and street lights, new landscaping and upgraded watermains and upgraded stormwater main infrastructure.

Also installed will be equipment for the Regional Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). The signal control system enables real-time adjustments that will save time, reduce emissions and improve safety for motorists.

Construction, which began in December of 2019, is expected to be completed this December.
