A 24-year-old from Mississauga was killed when the tractor-trailer in which they were riding crashed Monday morning on a stretch of highway near Dryden in northwestern Ontario.
OPP said in a news release the single-vehicle crash happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Highway 17 just east of Dryden, a town of less than 10,000 people located about 140 kilometres east of Kenora.
According to police, the Mississauga resident was a passenger in the large truck. The person was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was taken to hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening, police added.
Police have not released the name or gender of the person killed.
OPP said police officers, firefighters and other emergency services workers quickly responded after receiving the call on Victoria Day morning.
Police continue to investigate to determine the cause of the crash, which closed the highway down for several hours.
