The City of Pickering is reminding the public that winter parking restrictions will be in effect from December 1, but if you do get a ticket between now and December 21 the City will be accepting toy and food donations in lieu of payment.

‘Toys 4 Tickets and Food 4 Fines’ holiday program kicked off Monday, an annual campaign that sees all donations distributed to the Durham Regional Police Food & Toy Drive and the Pickering Fire Services Food & Toy Drive, which will make a meaningful difference to the lives of those in need this holiday season.

Toy donations must be new and unwrapped, and all food donations must be non-perishable. The value of the donation must be equal to, or greater than, the specified fine on the ticket. Tickets issued for illegal parking in accessible spaces are not eligible. Donations unrelated to tickets will be gladly accepted.

You can donate Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the second floor of Pickering City Hall. Visit pickering.ca/Toys4Tickets to learn more.

On-street parking is prohibited on all municipal streets from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. and during any winter control operations. Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed, with fines ranging from $35 to $90.

These restrictions are in place to maintain safe conditions for vehicles and pedestrians, and to accommodate the City’s winter control operations.
